Lura Care supports World Alzheimer's Month 2025 promoted by ADI

This September marks the 14th edition of World Alzheimer’s Month, which Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) promotes each year with the aim of raising awareness and combating the stigma that persists around Alzheimer’s disease and all types of dementia.

Every year, people around the world participate in promotional, fundraising, and awareness-raising events for World Alzheimer’s Month, and many of them work to raise awareness among the general population and call for more support for those most affected in their communities.

Only through greater awareness will more people seek information, advice, and support. The priority objectives are to improve diagnosis rates and encourage new research, including in areas such as risk reduction, and to manage the growing demand for access to treatment and care.

For this reason, in this edition ADI has launched a direct campaign to encourage people to ask questions about dementia, using the hashtags #AskAboutDementia and #AskAboutAlzheimers.

The campaign aims to change people’s perceptions and normalise asking questions and learning more about the disease, as well as helping to improve the living conditions of both people with dementia and their caregivers.

Today, more than 55 million people worldwide are living with dementia, 88% of whom report experiencing some form of discrimination related to their condition.

Projections also indicate that there will be 78 million people with dementia by 2030 and 139 million by 2050. With this progression, dementia will become the third leading cause of death worldwide by 2040.

Furthermore, the economic burden of dementia is estimated at US$1.3 billion each year, a figure that will more than double by 2030, making early detection and prevention essential.

At Lura Care, as a company specialising in home dental services for dependent people or those with mobility issues, we care for thousands of people living with Alzheimer or other forms of dementia every year.

This makes us particularly sensitive to the need to raise awareness about dementia and the importance of prevention in the field of oral health in relation to the onset and development of dementia.

It should be noted that in recent years, numerous pieces of evidence have emerged pointing to the relationship between gingivitis and periodontitis and Alzheimer’s disease, and we have warned about the need for a specialized dental approach for these patients.

For all these reasons, at Lura Care we encourage all individuals and organizations to join initiatives such as World Alzheimer’s Month, as awareness, information, and prevention are key to addressing this growing global phenomenon.

For our part, we will continue to work tirelessly to improve the health, well-being, and quality of life of dependent people throughout Europe, bringing the preventive measures and tailored dental care they need to their own place of residence, wherever they are and whatever their condition.
